Doncaster: Boy, 17, and man die in town centre stabbings

Police were called to Silver Street at about 02:40 to reports of an "altercation"

A teenage boy and a man have died following stabbings in Doncaster town centre, police have said.

Emergency services were called to a property on Silver Street at about 02:40 GMT on Saturday to reports of an "altercation".

Three people were found stabbed, South Yorkshire Police said. A 17-year-old died in hospital while a 21-year-old man died at the scene.

Police said a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder.

An 18-year-old man remains in hospital with minor injuries.
Doncaster District Commander, T/Ch Supt Ian Proffitt, said: "There is an increased police presence in Doncaster town centre today as we continue our investigation.

"Officers remain at the scene and are carrying out additional patrols as they conduct their inquiries."

At the scene

The area where the stabbing took place is likely to be closed until Sunday

It's eerily quiet here in the heart of Doncaster town centre on what would normally be a busy day for people going shopping or enjoying meeting up in the many bars along Silver Street.

Instead, there's a police cordon around approximately 200 metres of the town centre from one end of Silver Street to the other.

People here have been telling me of their shock after the events overnight.

The centre of the town is expected to remain cordoned off until Sunday while police continue their investigation.
